Volunteering with NSTP

  • Education

    Responsibilities/Expectations

    • Meet quarterly throughout the year, excluding tax season.
    • Establish guidelines for speaker qualifications required to teach for NSTP.
    • Assist with identifying and reviewing speaker applicants.
    • Review consolidated evaluations of NSTP seminars.
    • Review education topics that are needed or requested by members.
    • Make recommendations for new seminar topics.
    • Monitor education budgets against actual results.
    • Periodically recommend and/or write articles for FTA and/or Tax Tidbits.
    • Review the NSTP website to ensure educational materials remain current and relevant.
    • Review courses requested by members and follow up with specific members regarding available materials or courses.
    • Help develop criteria to highlight NSTP education courses in marketing materials.
  • Finance

    Responsibilities/Expectations

    • Work with the Treasurer to compile and propose the annual NSTP budget to the Board.
    • Review financial statements periodically, no less than annually, and provide comments to the Treasurer.
    • Conduct quarterly actual-to-budget reviews and prepare reports for the Board.
    • Review the financial feasibility of proposed NSTP projects prior to commencement.
    • Meet regularly, with increased frequency during budget season.
    • Meet with the Education Director in January to review the FUP and ensure proper financial allocations.
  • IRS Forums

    Responsibilities/Expectations

    • Meet regularly beginning several months prior to IRS Forums to develop strategy.
    • Develop and strategize marketing materials, handouts, and giveaways.
    • Evaluate volunteer personnel to staff the IRS exhibit hall booth.
    • Assist with budgeting for IRS Forums.
    • Ensure a positive and professional culture at the booth.
    • Ensure sufficient personnel are available to access the database while at IRS Forums.
    • Promote NSTP effectively to IRS Forum attendees.
    • Encourage participation of at least one Board member, in addition to speakers, at each Forum.
    • Ensure a Spanish-speaking representative is present at each forum location. 
  • Membership

    Responsibilities/Expectations

    • Build a membership team to support member retention efforts.
    • Evaluate existing membership programs for effectiveness.
    • Review and monitor membership initiatives from other organizations to identify opportunities that could benefit NSTP.
    • Review initiatives that strengthen member engagement and foster a sense of connection.
    • Implement personal touches to enhance the member experience.
    • Encourage the use of membership renewal forms to allow members to indicate interest in volunteering.
    • Encourage member participation and continued education.
    • Engage with members to understand their planned education activities, encourage additional course participation, and help build their professional networks.
    • Inform members of the value and benefits of NSTP membership.
    • Hold regular meetings.
    • Monitor competing organizations and programs on a regular basis.
    • Monitor the NSTP website to ensure content remains current.
    • Coordinate efforts with the IRS Forum Committee.
    • Review and recommend marketing initiatives to increase membership and education attendance.
  • Board Elections

    Responsibilities/Expectations

    • Oversee the Board candidate process.
    • Qualify Board candidates for membership voting.
    • Ensure volunteers involved in Board Elections do not run for the Board during the same cycle.
    • Interview Board candidates.
    • Review candidate references and background checks.
    • Meet as needed during the candidate review process.
    • Maintain a timeline to ensure timely completion of the election process.

     

  • Ambassadors

    Responsibilities/Expectations

    • Represent NSTP at events by welcoming attendees and sharing information about the organization.
    • Help ensure events are well organized, inclusive, and engaging.
    • Encourage networking and interaction among event attendees.
    • Gather feedback, concerns, and suggestions from participants.
    • Share personal NSTP experiences to encourage involvement and participation.
