ICYMI: ENROLLED AGENTS RENEWAL DUE BY JANUARY 31
If you are an enrolled agent with a Social Security number ending in 7, 8, 9 or those with no SSN, renew your status by January 31 to ensure you receive your new enrollment card before your current enrollment expires on March 31.
Enrolled Agent Renewal
- Renewal cycle: every 3 years based on last digit of SSN. The November 1, 2023 - January 31, 2024 renewal cycle is for SSNs ending in 7, 8, 9, or no SSN (view Circular 230 Section 10.6(d) for details)
- Renew online using Pay.gov Form 8554, OR
- Renew on paper using Form 8554
PTIN Renewal
- Renew your preparer tax identification number (PTIN) between mid-October – December 31 each year at IRS.gov/ptin
Continuing Education Requirements
- Obtain 72 hours every three years (based on your renewal cycle)
- Obtain a minimum of 16 hours per year (2 of which must be on ethics)
- Use an IRS approved continuing education provider
- Review the enrolled agent CE credit chart
Keep Your Contact Information Current

Include your name, prior contact information, new contact information, social security number or tax identification number, and the date.
