Course Description

Engagement Matters to NSTP! Helpline Live is a program launched to provide another avenue of communication for getting those tough tax questions answered. This version of NSTP's Helpline works much like our Town Hall event, but allows you to pull up a virtual stool and interact with two of NSTP's knowledgeable Helpline Live Hosts.

This event will be topic driven and allow anyone to register. However, only attendees who submit questions in advance will have an opportunity to have their question answered.

When registering for Helpline Live, participants will need to submit their question through the survey attached to a Big Marker notice.

The Big Marker notice will come as a follow up email to the registration of the Event.

When submitting your question, read through all requirements to ensure that your question fits the topic and can be answered in the time allotted.*

*Questions that are complicated in nature, should be submitted to NSTP’s Research Department instead of in this Forum.

Topics:

  1. Partner's basis in a partnership relating to inside and outside issues and loss limitations
  2. Shareholder's basis in stock and basis in debt and loss limitations
  3. Basis for investment in real estate transactions for purposes of depreciation and gain and loss on disposition

Program Procedures:

  1. Tax Helpline personnel will discuss questions that they have received from members during the 2023 Tax Season that they want to share with the participants in the session.
  2. Participants are allowed to submit 1 question, pertaining only to 2022 tax returns being filed in the 2023 Tax Season. Questions related to State specific issues are not part of this program.
  3. Questions must be submitted 48 hours prior to the event.
  4. Registrants with a submitted question are encouraged to be ready to clarify their questions during the event by the Helpline presenters.
  5. NSTP also encourages registrants who want to participate and hear what other Tax Professionals are asking.
  6. Once registered, a notice from Big Marker will arrive in your email. The notice will provide the registrant to access the event, and a platform for the individual to submit their question.
  7. Registrants are not required to submit a question. However, if a registrant submits a question, then it must be received by NSTP 48 hours prior to the start of the event.

In addition, if time allows, the presenters will discuss some of the common tax season helpline question.

  • Should a Partnership or S-Corporation issue 1099s to its' Partners and shareholders?
  • How to calculate a partner's basis for a new client that not kept track of it.
