Course Description

This course discusses the financial issues of savings and tax incentives that are necessary for planning for the qualified educational expenditures of the taxpayer and for students of all ages. This presentation reviews the tax benefits of §529 Qualified Tuition Programs and §530 Coverdell Education Savings Accounts. A discussion of §135 Exclusion of Interest from U.S. Savings Bonds will be part of the presentation, as well as §72(t) penalty tax exception on an early IRA distribution for qualified educational expenditures. In addition the session also discusses plans designated for individuals with Special Needs. This course dissects the benefits of contributions to §529A ABLE Qualified Programs and Special Needs Trust Issues, and the available uses of these programs through savings and tax planning strategies.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the presentation, the Tax Professional will be better equipped to advise clients on strategies for education planning for all students. The participant will be equipped to discuss the programs available to a Special Needs Individual and the vehicles available for their lifetime care. Also, planning and savings for education needs will be at the participant’s fingertips for sharing and advising with clients.
